Tournament

The highlights of our rugby season are the Hawaii Youth Rugby State and Island Tournaments. The State tournament will be held on the Big Island this year in Hilo and two island tournaments will be held in Oahu and Maui.

The tournaments are an ideal showcase to demonstrate the improving standard of U19’s rugby on the Hawaiian islands and allows teams to get together once a year to enjoy the game, make new friends and see how they measure up against opposition outwith their local area.

2008 HYR State Championship

Congratulations to Kahuku All Red for their success in winning the the 2008 Hawaii Youth Rugby Tournament. With over one hundred and thirty players from six teams playing seven great games in a championship that provided a feast of rugby to quench the thirst of even the most die hard fan the promise of more teams forming and the continuing improvement in the performance of the HYR clubs means the future is looking bright for youth rugby across the state.

Many thanks to the HYR organizing committee, to the players, coaches our sponsors and especially to the many fans who turned up and weathered Hilo’s gift of abundant rain during the final day.

To the National Guard, many thanks for you’re support of youth rugby and helping us to bring the game of rugby to the youth of the islands. Mahalo.
